Little Jay/Lead Poisoning

The porch and food pantry in Little Jay's (see photos below) house are poisonous. The water'll be tested for lead from the plumbing, this week. He can't go out on the porch, but that's impossible. Look at the pics that'll follow and you'll see how his porch is the only way out of the house, and the safest place to be, since the road is so near...

Our confidence that the landlord will take care of this in a timely fashion is low. Is there anybody out there who wants to help us buy paint (high quality seal) and get into the task of carefully scraping, cleaning up (shop vac) (dust mask), and painting the thing for them? Pantry too...

This little guy needs you in at least two ways, right now. So do we. Would you help, and join us, and him?

  3. well, we've since learned that the landlord has hired a contractor to fix the issue... this might mean a lengthy wait, but if we step in and just paint it, it might cause trouble...

we might just do that, but it's always disappointing when we "do more harm than good..."

could you try to email me or something? if you drop me an email, we can discuss it better... is my email available through this site? try it. i really want to do it, but i'm not a painter, expert, haven't even priced paint or gotten advise on treating lead problems... i guess i need that info before i give out a dollar amount to anyone... it would be bad to be wrong about what to do if someone's giving money... you know?

  4. i just went on a website and downloaded an article on treating such surfaces and fixing such problems...

Since it's an outside job, and a fairly small area, we would still need masks, a shopvac, and gloves and whatnot, but the vac wouldn't need to be HEPA filtered and whatnot...

could you try to get in touch with us via email? It's getting too cold to paint, so this is bigtime important... we'd like to partner with people and churches and the like to get this done right. And I need to check with the landlord, today, to see if the job'll get done soon enough for us all to relax and move on to the next crisis...

  5. okay, assessment complete... we're ready. The only thing we'll need is a bunch of porch paint. Gray for the floor, white for the railings. Prob'ly about 4 gallons for the floor, and maybe like 2 for the railings and whatnot. I'm not a professional, but that's my take... what's that cost? like less than a hundert bucks?

We'll use plain old masks for the dust, plastic to catch the chips from the ground... long sleeves, etc...

So, "as jesus would", thank you for offering this! We would use money for that task, yes. Thank you.

and we would love to be found working with you...
